Valentine Party and Date Day

Our Valentine Party will be held on Monday, February 14th after the Date Day activities. Please help your child decorate the white sack that I have sent home; this will be their school Valentine bag. Be careful not to cover up their name and number. Please send the bag back by Wednesday, February 9th. I have enclosed a class list. Please make sure that the name and number are on each Valentine; that way the children can sort them into the Valentine sacks by themselves. It also helps the children if they are bundled together in numerical order.

VIRTUE OF THE MONTH HONESTY

Teaching honesty by example is very effective. “Do-as-I-do” is a better motto than the proverbial, “Do-as-I-say, not-as-I-do.” Use a no-shaming policy when children mess up. Children will be more likely to revert to dishonest behaviors if they fear being shamed. Respond rather than overreact when children lie or dissemble. It is natural for children to test. Your response will teach them to be honest, or to hide. Do not demand (or expect) perfection. Keep consequences for transgressions equal to the “crime,” and always as consistent as possible. Short consequences work best.
